Painting laminate furniture
Modern flat-pack furniture is often made of inexpensive laminate. Laminate is generally a plastic type coating glued onto chipboard, particle board or mdf. This is not to be confused with a wood veneer, which is a thin layer of real wood glued on.
Because laminate is a plastic it's notoriously difficult to paint over. We have developed a bond coat product called Voodoo Molly Bondcoat Primer to help get a great result.

METHOD
-
Clean furniture well, removing all traces of dirt, grease, wax and loose particles.
-
Repair any holes or cracks with wood filler as per product directions.
-
Sand the entire surface with 100 grit sandpaper. This will give the surface 'tooth' for adhesion. You can use an electric sander if you wish. Do not over sand! You do not want to sand through the laminate surface.
-
Clean off all sanding dust before painting.
-
Use a paint brush to apply a thin coat of Voodoo Molly Bondcoat Primer .
-
Dry at least overnight before painting with Voodoo Molly Vintage Paint.
-
When you have finished painting allow furniture to fully cure for 7 days before using for best results.
